The Idea Behind the Marathon 3” Short

When we started designing the Marathon 3” Short, the problem wasn’t weight. We’d solved that with FlyTec.  It was storage. Most supershorts do one of two things: they either strip everything away and leave you with nowhere to carry fuel, or they add pockets that bounce, sag, or compromise the way the short moves at speed.

We wanted to design a short that could be raced hard; track, road, intervals, without needing a belt, vest, or workaround. Storage had to be built into the garment itself, not layered on top of it. The result is the Marathon 3” Short: minimal by design, but surprisingly capable when it comes to carrying what you actually need over longer efforts.

AeroLux (FlyTec): The Foundation

The Marathon 3” Short is built from AeroLux, our 110gsm FlyTec stretch-woven fabric, composed of 74% nylon and 26% spandex.

By increasing elastane content and using an innovative weaving technique, we’ve created a fabric that is:

  • Up to 35% lighter than comparable stretch-woven materials

  • Exceptionally stable under load
Faster drying — 7 to 13 minutes quicker than traditional woven shorts

Nylon provides strength and abrasion resistance. The higher spandex content delivers mechanical stretch and recovery, allowing the short to move freely without losing shape, even when the storage system is fully loaded.

Storage as a System

Storage is the defining feature of the Marathon 3” Short, but it only works because it’s treated as part of the pattern, not an accessory.

The short features:

  • A secure rear zip pocket for keys, cards, or valuables

  • Four external storage loops, integrated directly into the waistband construction

Those loops are intentionally simple. They’re designed to carry gels, a rolled singlet, or lightweight layers — held close to the body, without bounce.

The key here is stability. Because the fabric has high stretch recovery and the waistband uses a soft elastic with controlled tension, items stay locked in place even during high-cadence running or sprint work.

Nothing swings. Nothing shifts. And nothing pulls the short out of position.

Construction & Fit

The 3” length is deliberate. Less fabric below the hip means:

  • Reduced heat retention

  • Zero interference with stride

  • Clear, unobstructed access to the storage system

The waistband is soft but secure, designed to hold tension without digging in, especially important when storage is loaded. Reflective details are minimal and functional. There’s nothing here that doesn’t serve a purpose.

Why We Created It

We didn’t want another race short that forced a compromise. We wanted one that let you show up with exactly what you need.

The Marathon 3” Short is for races and sessions where fuel, layers, or essentials are part of the plan, but carrying excess isn’t. It’s a short for athletes who want freedom, without being unprepared.
